Standard rental policies to know before your trip ๐Ÿš—โœจ

To keep your trip smooth and fair for your and the car rental supplier serving you, here are the key rental policies to read before you start your booking.

1. Fuel โ›ฝ

  • Return the car with the same fuel level it was issued (e.g., if half tank return at half tank).
  • If returned with less, youโ€™ll be billed for the deficit at pump rates.
  • Pro Tip: Fuel up at the station nearest the supplierโ€™s premises. If you fuel elsewhere, the gauge may dip slightly by the time you return, and you may be billed for a top-up.

2. Cleanliness ๐Ÿš™๐Ÿงผ

  • Cars are issued clean and must be returned clean.
  • If extra cleaning is needed, a car wash fee will be applied.

3. Insurance Coverage ๐Ÿ“„

  • For repairs below the insurance excess, you pay the damages out of pocket.
  • For damages above the excess, you pay the excess, and the insurer covers the rest.
  • Excess fees are usually 8โ€“10% of the carโ€™s value (stated in your contract).

4. Return Time โฐ

  • Cars must be returned at the agreed time.
  • Late returns attract extra hourly/daily charges.

5. Extensions โž•

  • Need more time? Inform your supplier or Otto support before your return time.
  • Extensions depend on availability and come with extra charges.

6. Early Return & Refunds ๐Ÿ’ณ

  • If you return the car earlier than booked, refunds are not guaranteed.
  • Action at pickup: Ask your supplier to explain their refund policy and have it noted in your booking.

7. Accidents or Malfunctions โš ๏ธ

  • If something happens, do not repair the car yourself.
  • Call your supplier or Otto support and follow their direction.

8. Rescue Cover ๐Ÿšจ

  • Optional Standard Rescue Cover (KES 200) includes:
    • ๐Ÿšจ Roadside assistance (towing & security).
    • ๐Ÿš‘ Emergency medical rescue (for passengers listed in your booking only).
  • Response times depend on supplier guidance and conditions.
  • Not covered: third parties not in your booking.

9. Mileage ๐Ÿ“

  • Mileage is unlimited, as long as you stay within the area of use agreed in your booking.

10. Prohibited Use ๐Ÿšซ

Not allowed:

  • Racing or reckless driving.
  • Illegal activities.
  • Driving in game parks unless the car is booked for that purpose.

11. Traffic Offenses ๐Ÿš”

  • You are responsible for fines, penalties, and towing incurred during your rental.

12. Driverโ€™s License ๐Ÿชช

  • All drivers must present a valid license at pickup.

13. Authorized Drivers ๐Ÿ‘ค

  • Only the listed driver(s) in your contract may drive.
  • If you need an extra driver, declare them at the start and add them to the contract. Otherwise, itโ€™s a breach of contract.

14. Self-Drive vs Chauffeured ๐Ÿงญ

  • Self-Drive: Counted in 24-hour blocks (e.g., 8 AM โ†’ 8 AM = 1 day).
  • Chauffeured: Counted by calendar day (Mon = 1 day, Tue = 1 day).
  • Chauffeured driving rule: Only the assigned driver may drive. If you wish to drive, you must:
    • Provide your license at the start,
    • Inform the supplier,
    • Sign to accept shared liability.

15. Keys & Accessories ๐Ÿ”‘

  • Lost keys, spare tires, car documents, jacks, or radios will attract replacement charges.
